Socialization

The idea of online dating is one that I really do not get nor think that I ever will. As humans we are social beings, who have to interact with other everyday and in almost in every situation. The ability for people to meet other online and interact online has taken away socialization for some people, allowing them to stop interacting with actually people and start interacting with virtual people. This has created a huge group of people who, now because of online dating, cannot interact or socialize with others. These people are usually referred to as being awkward and sometimes they become even more awkward without needing to socialize to meet/date others. Before online dating these awkward people were forced to interact with others, allowing them to become more socialized and less awkward. Online dating in my opinion is taking an essential part of being human away, socialization. Without this essential skill, you might be able to work on computers by yourself in your room all day, but you would not being able to work with others on project. Really you would not be able to work with others on anything. The internet is a great reasource but in my opinion it should not be used for online dating.

Your Not Allowed To Say That

The use of the N word is a very taboo one. It is ok if an African American calls another African American that word. If that were to happen some people would not think twice about it, but if say a white person calls an African American the N word it is not okay. Some people act as if the world is coming to an end if that would to happen. Don’t get me wrong I am not racists at all; I actually have a problem with the word being used in general. If you have a problem with the word, you should not use it at all, even if it’s one African American to another. For example I have a huge problem with the word slut. If as a girl I have a problem with guys calling girls slut, I should also not allow girls to call other girls sluts either. Which is what I do, I do not even allow other girls to call me a slut. I think the term in general is very degrading. So if African American have problems with other ethnic groups calling them the N word, maybe they should consider stop using the term themselves.

Illegality

Recently there has been a lot of debate of illegal immigrants. I think it’s wrong of people to stereotype certain groups of people as being illegal, but I do not think that it is ok that people think it is ok come into the US without the government’s permission. I do not mind when new immigrants come into the country the legal way, but it really gets me when people come in illegally and stay here working. There are several reasons why I do not like this. The first reason is there is a reason why the US does not except everyone into the country. If we did there could be the possibility that a lot of the people could find it really hard or impossible to find jobs, which would make the unemployment rate skyrocket. The next reason is that if they are here illegally they are not paying any taxes. This would mean that they would be using and getting the perks of paying taxes without actually paying them. The next is that a good bit of them use the money that they make and send them to their families back in the country that they came from. This means that they are not spending the money to help out the US’s economy but a different countries economy. The last reason is that these illegal’s take the jobs of actually citizens since a lot of them work below minimum wage.

Sexualatlity its Everywhere

I can see how people today think that there is so much more TV than there used to be. This is because they are thinking of cable TV not network television. Today there are so many more channels for people to pick from, which means if someone wants to watch a show with sexuality they can find it. When people get mad about there being too much sex on TV I think that it is silly, find a different show to watch. Like there are so many options of channels today, if you think that there is too much sexuality in the show that you are watching, get over it and change the channel. I would understand if there were only a couple of channels on TV and them all had sex on it all the time, then get mad. I think that as long as there are different options for different people it should be ok. If parents do not trust their kids, they should get parental block on their TV’s so their kids can not watch the shows that they do not think is appropriate. Also if parents think these highly sexual shows are increasing the teenage pregnancy rate, maybe they should actually talk to their kids about safe sex and abstinence instead of just blaming it on the television programs.

Color Blind

When it comes to TV shows or movies I think of myself as color blind. I love watching any show or movie no matter who is in it or what is it about, as long as it has a good plot and it is interesting. In fact if I had to bet I would think that the majority of the populations are the same way. That we really do not care about the nationality of the actors, just as long as it’s entertaining and that we enjoy it. The constant need for people to bring up the whole race card, in my opinion was gotten quiet old and outdated. I think that the entertainment industry had come a long way over the last 40 or so years. The minority percentage in movies and TV has risen to almost the percent that the minorities are in the population as a whole (at least major minorities). But I would say that the lesser minorities do need to be represented more in movies and TV shows. I really liked how the show Friends dealt with the race card by not dealing with the race card. In fact I cannot really think of an episode that they even touch on race. Even when Ross’s girlfriend was Asian, they never mentioned anything about it. I think if more shows did this, people would stop talking about discrimination due to nationality and more focus one greater issue that affect the whole population in the US or even the world.

Why did you decide that?

In the article “Schema Theory and Measurement in Mass Communication Research: Theoretical and Methodological Issues in News Information Processing” by Robert Wicks, posed the question, “What causes a person to decide to read one article in a newspaper rather than another” got me thinking. What does cause someone to do this? To figure this out I looked at what I usually do, which is skim various articles in magazines and newspapers until one catches my interest. The reason I find things interesting usually varies from a topic that I am interested in and would want to know in daily life to something about always wanting to know more about a certain topic. The whole reading certain articles over others got me thinking about the reason that articles have such a huge range in mostly newspapers but sometimes in magazines too, is that the wider the range the higher the likelihood that everyone might be interested in at least one article. To go back to the question of what makes people choose one article over another all has to do with the individual and what their likes and interest are. For example a younger person is probably not going to read an article about menopause or something to that nature. This article usually would not relate at all to what is going on in young people’s lives today, so why would they read an article like this. They would not.
